On-demand transport
Dial-a-ride definition
Dial-a-ride - also known as D.R.T. - is an advanced, user-oriented form of public transport characterised by flexible routing and scheduling of small/medium vehicles operating in shared-ride mode between pick-up and drop-off locations according to passengers needs (reservation required, generally by phone).
Different types of D.R.T. services
- virtual line: fixed reference route (list of stations served in a specific order) that may skip stops not requested by passengers during the reservation. Predefined or variable departure times.
- "point to point" zonal dial-a-ride: the passenger is picked up at and transported to eligible stop points in the same defined area. Reservation required, no reference route, predefined or variable departure times.
- "door to door" zonal dial-a-ride: transports the passenger between his home and an adress, in the same defined area.
- zonal dial-a-ride converging around a pole: the passenger is picked up at a predetermined stop or at home and transported to a single destination.
